Support an asylum seeking family!

MAY 2024 UPDATE: In November 2023, Martha's husband was attacked and robbed near their home. He was hospitalized for several days with extensive injuries, but luckily is starting to heal. Because of this attack, Martha's husband is now eligible to apply for a U-visa, a type of visa available to people who have been the victim of a crime in the United States. They have retained an immigration attorney, who has been hard at work on the extensive paperwork necessary to apply for the visa. However, with the medical expenses piling up, they are looking for support in paying their attorney's fees. Although their attorney is providing low-cost services, they are still in need of $2,700. Please consider donating to help ease this additional burden on Martha and her family, as well as give them the possibility of receiving this U-visa.

JULY 2023 UPDATE: Due to governmental processing delays, Martha and her husband are still waiting to receive their work permits. Without the ability to work lawfully, they are struggling to make ends meet and are at risk of losing their housing. We are urgently seeking donations to help them to be able to make their rent payment by August 1.

Martha, her husband, and their five children, ages 14, 6, 5, 4, and 1, fled Honduras to escape brutal violence and persecution. After fleeing Honduras, Martha and her family remained trapped in Mexico, where they faced further violence and instability, due to Title 42, a border policy that cuts off access to the U.S. asylum system to almost all people seeking asylum in the United States. In May 2021, Martha and her family were finally able to enter the United States through a limited exemption to the Title 42 policy. They have now begun the lengthy process of applying for asylum in the United States.
In addition, Martha’s oldest daughter was born with cerebral palsy and microcephaly. She is unable to sit up or stand on her own, and because she is unable to tend to her basic needs, she relies on her family to care for her at all times. Due to problems with her ability to swallow and digest food, she has had to undergo – and will continue to need – numerous operations and requires constant and intensive medical care.
Due to these expenses, the family is struggling to make ends meet as they await their work permits. All donations will go toward helping the family pay for their housing and other basic living expenses, as well as for their daughter’s medical care.
Note: Emily Child is accepting donations on the family’s behalf, and will send all donations on to the family.
Thank you!

Muchas gracias!
