In March of this year Ashley’s world changed forever. Her longtime partner--and one of our closest friends--Travis Watkins, passed away very suddenly from a catastrophic heart attack. It was unexpected and devastating. They shared a home, a life, and plans for the future — and now she is facing the unimaginable: grieving the love of her life while trying to start over from scratch.

Because they weren’t legally married and no estate plan was in place, Ashley was left with nothing from the life they built together. She had to quickly relocate from their home and now faces the painful task of buying the car that Travis bought for her from the estate in order to keep it so that she can get to and from work.

On top of this devastating loss, Ashley also experienced her own medical challenges this year, which have been both emotionally and financially draining. Despite it all, she continues to show up for others — she’s a licensed practical nurse who works with children overcoming trauma. She spends her days helping others heal, even while she’s still finding her own footing through grief and uncertainty.
