Dear friends and family, we made this Gofundme for my parents. I’m not sure if anyone could ever be prepared for something like this but my parents were definitely not. If you feel led to donate, please know that we truly appreciate your generosity during this time! The future is uncertain but we remain hopeful for his recovery!

Here’s our story!

My dad had a freak accident Saturday night (12/27) that resulted in a spinal cord injury. They were asleep and he woke up and started coughing, so he sat up on the side of the bed. He was sort of leaning forward coughing and then passed out and fell headfirst off the bed. He landed on his head/neck! He was instantly paralyzed and couldn’t move. An ambulance brought him to TMC.

He had a four-hour long surgery on Sunday (12/28) for spinal decompression and spinal fusion of his C2-C7. The doctor said it went as well as it could have to create space for his spinal cord, but it is not a cure. Hopefully, it will help.

He stayed in ICU for 13 days where treating his pain and muscle spasms proved to be a challenge. I’m happy to report that he is much more comfortable and we think they have found the right meds and dosages!

On 1/11, he transferred to Baylor Scott and White Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas. Although this is farther away and harder for us to get to him, we are so thankful they accepted him! This is his best chance! So far he has been treated very kindly and they have a plan in place for his recovery. His anticipated discharge date is 2/21 (a 6 week stay!). They will reevaluate during his stay and closer to that date to see if it is still appropriate.

Our biggest prayer is that with time and rehab, he will be able to regain his movements and COME HOME!!

The past few weeks have been so very hard emotionally. The enormity of what has happened in a blink of an eye is overwhelming. We had our family Christmas Saturday evening and we were all together! A few hours later, this happened.

The financial burden of simply gas money to and from Dodd City where they live, the meals, and bills will (and already are) adding up with him out of work for the unseeable future.

He is a pillar in our family, and it is so hard to see him like this. Please keep him and our family in your prayers!!
