Amy's Struggle Through Cancer

Hi friends, my name is Rae. A few years ago, I met a beautiful woman, mother, wife, caregiver and friend. This is her story:

Amy is a 6-year cancer fighter of breast cancer that started in 2016. Unfortunately, that metastasized into bone cancer in her sternum. For three years, Amy did chemo to fight bone cancer while working a full time job and being a mom.

On June 30, 2022, Amy made a scary yet brave choice to have a risky surgery to remove this cancer. She had a piece of her sternum removed and immediate reconstruction, which consisted of her muscles being moved to cover the mesh that kept the rest of her sternum and rib cage secure.

The surgery went well, but complications kept her in hospital for eight days. Her stay at home was short-lived as she developed a severe infection in her chest. She was airlifted from Loveland, CO, to Aurora, where she had a 2nd surgery to clean out the wound and had another extended 8-day stay. Coming home this time was more challenging, because she has to have a nurse 3x a week to change her dressings; and once a week a visit to an outpatient clinic to help keep her IV line clean-so she can administer her antibiotics at home. Her recovery time went from 4-6 weeks to an additional 6-8 weeks.

As you can imagine, this has been a tough time for her and her family. With Amy unable to work for an extended amount of time, she has struggled, physically and emotionally. She has physical restrictions that keep her from returning to her original job duties, with an unclear timeline of when those restrictions will be lifted.

Amy has more resilience, courage and bravery than I have ever seen. I am asking for help for someone who deserves it more than anyone I have ever met because in life, we know we can’t do these things alone.
