ZEUS'S STORY

I took Zeus in for a surgery consult on 10/12 where we met with some wonderful staff at the Metropolitan Veterinary Associates and Emergency Services. Zeus's bloodwork and chest x-ray looked good so the vet said she's hopeful. The vet we met with does surgery on Thursdays and Fridays and said the radiologist she trusts is on site Thursdays. Due to the rapid growth of the tumor and the nature of cancer, I decided to immediately set up the surgery for 10/13. They will take an ultrasound of his lymphnodes and bloodwork to check his calcium levels.
Based on the test results, Zeus will either have the growth removed or both the tumor and his lymphnodes will be taken out, which is a riskier and more expensive procedure. Regardless, the vet will do whatever is in Zeus's best interest. He'll stay over Thursday night and come home Friday as long as all goes well. Surgery won't be the end of the treatment but I'm not sure of anything yet so for now we'll all take it one day at a time and I'll update you all when I'm able.
It just so happens that my best friend since childhood works at the same hospital where Zeus is being treated. Anyone who knows Katherine knows how much she values the best care humanly possible for animals. With her vote of confidence in Zeus's surgeon, I'm viewing this surgery as a wonderful opporunity for Zeus to continue to live happily, touching the lives of all those he enters, for a while longer.

I may not respond right away due to the chaos of life still taking place but I will get back to you.
