Zeus Needs Your Help for Life-Changing Surgery

It’s been a long 48 hrs in Akita rescue. By mere chance we from A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. came across a post about a dumped Akita who was fending for himself in the mountains. The person who posted did not take him but a Good Sam did. Her comment on that thread set our rescue wheels in motion.

My name is Manon and I am trying to help Zeus who was abandoned in the California mountains and found by a Good Sam on 6/2. I came across his story on FB and was able to get him with the rescue I foster, fundraise and volunteer for- A Passion For Paws Rescue.

Thanks to a generous donor it was possible for us to have him be seen by our vet Camino in Irvine. Sadly we learned that Zeus will require extensive surgery to fix a broken hip. We are truly devasted for Zeus!

Zeus was seen by our vet and x rays revealed a sad truth; Zeus was likely hit by a car at some point. His right hip joint is destroyed. His left front wrist broken (old injury), severe arthritis in the other elbow. The medication he is on now is very expensive but we are hopeful that it will restore some of his mobility until he can receive a hip replacement surgery.

As you can see in the x ray, the head of the femur is broken off and in pieces. God knows how he was able to move with this type of injury.

Working in rescue for years, I have been involved with medical cases like his before and I have seen and witnessed first hand the wonderful results when orthopedic surgeons from Access Specialty Hospital in Culver City operated on dogs with this kind of surgery. Both of the Huskies made a complete recovery!

ACCESS will give us their medical opinion as to how to proceed and what our options are. However, consult and CT scan alone will be more than we can spent on ONE dog right now. The rescue is just not financially able to provide the funds to cover this type of surgery! He is on Doxilyt for the time being. It’s a very strong post orthopedic pain medication. They had to sedate Zeus just for the x rays alone!

Zeus is undeniably in pain. Please help me with a financial contribution towards his surgery. The eval documentation from ACCESS will be attached to this gofundme once he was seen by an ACCESS surgeon. Should he not be a good candidate for surgery funds will be returned.
