Zeta Needs Your Help: Vet Bills Rising

Donation protected

Hey yall, my name is Dana! I am raising money for vet bills for my dog.

Zeta is a 4 year old German Shepard. She was diagnosed with EPI at the end of last year. EIP stands for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. EPI is a condition where the pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes, leading to malabsorption of nutrients. This is a genetic disease. We were able to get it under control with the help of life long medications.

In January of this year, we noticed that Zeta was having diarrhea a lot. This lasted about 2 weeks without stopping. We took her into the vet and found out that she had an infection as well as a ruptured anal glad. Before I continue, I want yall to know that with EIP, they have liquid bowls so this was part of that reason for January. Anyways, the rupture of the anal was not only on the inside but it was all the way through to the outside. The vet put her on antibiotics and steroids to help while her body healed. We scheduled a follow up for 2 weeks later. The appointment came and everything was looking good so we kept her on the same meds as her body healed. We did this for the whole month of Feburary as it does take some time for the anal glad to heal.

We went in on March 8th for another follow up appointment and were told that the anal glad itself was healed but of course the huge hole on the outside had not. So we decided that surgery was needed. So on March 14th Zeta had surgery to close the about 2-3 inch hole from the inside out. Everything went great and it looked amazing. 3 days after surgery as we were checking the area to make sure all was still good, we noticed she had 2 new holes close to the surgery site. We called and made an appointment with our vet for March 22nd. The vet took at look at them and was a little concerned but they werent infected and we were hoping that they would heal on their own but decided that we would start laser therapy start on March 25th and we would do this twice a week. On the 25th, the vet took at look at the holes and everything looked great! So we continued the treatments. She went back on March 28th and same thing.

On April 1st, we went in for laser treatment and the 2 holes had stopped draining, were not red and looked great! We thought her body would start to heal from here. This is when we also found out that she has an immune disease that is eating her good tissue. The holes are perianal fistulas. April 4th was a rough day. We went in for what we thought would be good news and it was not. The 2 holes had become 1 giant hole and 2 more holes had appeared on the opposite side of her butt. All of them were actively draining and bleeding. We watched our vet lose color in her face and was speechless as she was trying to get the bleeding to stop.

At this time, we were told that nothing we have tried has worked and even this very expensive medication wasn't working. We were told to keep her in the cone, which she has been in since the end of January, but also to keep her in doggy diapers. We were also told that unfortunately, cases this bad end up being put down as nothing will help. My husband and I prepared ourselves for the worse.

This brings us to today April 7th. We went in to find out if there was anything else we can do or try that could help. The vet is going to call a couple of research hospitals in our state in hopes that something is out there that will help but there is no hope for all of us as we have done everything. So we are sitting at this spot where if there is something that could help, it will be expensive or if there is nothing than we will have to make the big decision about putting her down as she is starting to suffer. She has also lost 5 pounds since she was weighted on the 1st and she is refusing to eat.

We have ran out of money to continue to try to save our dog. If you can not help, please at least spread the word and say some prayers because we don't want to lose our baby. We don't know how much this will all cost so I just placed a number as we have already spent this amount plus more in the last couple of months.
