Zero to Half Marathon in Support of Patients Battling Cancer

Donation protected
One month ago I decided to start running, with the aim of pushing myself from zero to half-marathon in exactly 2 months. It’s now been one month since I started training and I have only 4 weeks left before I’m set to take on the Cairo Half Marathon.

To give myself some extra motivation, I’ll be running to raise money for two causes very close to my heart, child cancer patients and glioblastoma patients.

I’ll be using the money to support patients with the following (in Egypt):
  • Medication/treatment costs
  • Travel costs: some patients have to travel for hours to arrive at the nearest cancer hospital, and some repeat this daily for months of treatment. Money will be used to help arrange travel for those patients or where possible, provide them with nearby accommodation for the duration of their treatment
  • Care packages/gifts: sometimes it’s equally as important to try and give these children elements of their childhood back- moments of fun and hope amidst the hospital stays. And the same applies to the adults battling cancer

I’ll be collaborating with doctors across various hospitals in Egypt to find cases that really need the support and will be personally distributing the funds (I’ll be purchasing and distributing medication, arranging any travel/accommodation and purchasing and distributing gifts); following through the entire process to make sure that the money can go as far as possible and to those who need it most.

Once the money has been distributed I’ll also be providing a full breakdown of exactly how it was all spent, for full transparency.
(Full details will be shared on my insta @nouraa.shaltout)

21km is the physical goal
So £2,100 is the monetary goal
A humble £100 per kilometre, to help push me towards a sub-2-hour finish for my first half marathon.

£2,100 is the humble goal but if we can take it to £21,000 then I’ll run really fast (really really fast at £210,000 etc. etc.). And the more we can raise, the more patients we’ll be able to support inshallah.

There are so many things that happen, outside of our control, that can make life very difficult. But during those difficult times, there are some things that can be controlled to try and make life just a little bit easier. My zero-to-half-marathon journey is about trying to bring some ease into people’s lives by utilising the things that we have the luxury to be able to control.

Thank you so much in advance.
