Zephyr’s Lifesaving Medical Emergency

Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Emily Baralis Walters (Rashid Green’s Mom), My Grandson Zephyr was rushed to Mercy Children’s Hospital 12/04/2022, after months of being diagnosed with a cold, ear ache, etc., however, what really was happening unbeknownst to us all, his intestines twisted and ruptured and for weeks he was vomiting and laying in a fetal position and the doctors thought it was the flu. After a CT scan, Dr Lim-Beutel rushed Zephyr into surgery because feces was being stored in his abdomen and he had a life-threatening situation. The doctor said one more day and Zephyr wouldn’t have made it. Zephyr was in ICU for the next 2-3 days and then they had to rush him back to surgery for a 2nd surgery to empty his stomach of more poop. He spent a total of 16 days in the hospital and returned home with an ostomy bag for 4 1/2 months which they first said would be 6-8 weeks. He had something called Meckel’s Diverticulum about 2% of people have it. The surgeon said that some people have it but it never causes an issue. For Zeph, unfortunately, it caused his small intestines to twist and perforate.
This was so traumatic for his parents Kasey and Rashid Green and the whole extended family Hale, Stalnaker, Baralis and Green.
During these 4 1/2 months my son Rashid has not been able to work because Zephyr requires 24-hour care. Zephyr also has a 20-month old brother Zion who is very busy! So, needless to say with Mom and Dad taking turning sleeping at the hospital it’s taken a toll emotionally, mentally and financially.
Zephyr had his 3rd surgery April 13, 2023, to reverse the colostomy bag so he can return to normal again. He’s currently at Mercy Children’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO and will be there another week.
It’s been a long journey and as a Grandmother I love this little boy more than life. He is so sweet and has never complained about this whole process. He’s so empathetic, loving, kind, smart and giving! Please if you can contribute anything to help with his care and hospital bills it would immensely bless the family! I thank you in advance! No contribution is too small! I thank you all for reading this and May God bless you! And of course Zephyr thanks you!!!!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Emily Zephyr’s Grandmother
