Zephaniah's Medical and Memorial Fund

My beloved brother and sister-in-law, John and Carmela Beralas, unexpectedly lost their first child due to premature birth at 22 weeks. Their beautiful son Zephaniah Keoni Mateo arrived in this world on July 2, 2022. After several unsuccessful attempts at intubation, Zephaniah died in Carmela’s arms that same day. Losing a child — let alone your first — is every parent's worst nightmare and something that no one is emotionally prepared to face. I can’t begin to fathom the pain they are experiencing. But by the grace of God, they have been able to keep their heads up and stay encouraged through the most challenging time of their lives. John and Carmela’s story is a testimony and encouragement to us all that in our times of absolute weakness and grief, God’s strength and power are made perfect and will sustain us through our lowest points.

In addition to experiencing such tremendous loss, John and Carmela also face massive medical bills. They had arrangements to deliver in a birth center and did not have medical insurance for a hospital birth. It has been a struggle for them to rush back to work to afford their monthly expenses and pay for their medical bills, all while grieving the loss of their child. We are asking for monetary donations to help this loving couple with medical bills, funeral expenses and living expenses.

John and Carmela have always put others above themselves — dedicating their lives and careers to helping others through their struggles. Please consider donating to this couple so that they have the time and support needed to heal. If you cannot give financially, you can still assist by sharing this Gofundme and lifting them up in prayer for healing and the peace and comfort of God.
