Returning to Gaza June 2027

My name is Zena Saleh, and I am a General Surgery resident in New Jersey. In April 2024, I traveled to Gaza to provide emergency medical care during the ongoing genocide. Thanks to the incredible generosity of family, friends, colleagues, and supporters from around the world, we raised over $50,000 that directly funded critical medications, surgical supplies, medical equipment, and humanitarian aid delivered to hospitals in Rafah.

Those donations made a real difference. Together, we were able to support healthcare workers operating under unimaginable conditions while helping deliver life-saving care to Gazan patients, the majority of whom were children.

After nearly two years, I have been given the opportunity to return to Gaza during June/ July as part of a medical mission operating under the leadership and coordination of the United Nations and World Health Organization. While much has changed since my last deployment—including the evolving status of the conflict, changing border access, and restrictions on what supplies may enter Gaza—the humanitarian and medical needs remain overwhelming. The level of human suffering is difficult to comprehend, and the need for medical support remains as urgent as ever.

I will be joining a team dedicated to delivering direct medical care and support to one of the last standing hospitals in Gaza. Funds raised will help cover this mission and support multiple local relief projects that will be shared as they become executed. Every contribution, regardless of size, will help expand our ability to provide care and bring much-needed resources to those who need them most.

I have witnessed firsthand the resilience, strength, and unmatched humanity of the people of Gaza. I am deeply grateful for the support that made my previous mission possible, and I am honored to have the opportunity to return and continue this work.
