Zen Kitten Litter Medical Fund

Donation protected
On May 2nd, my friends, Jacki and Sam, heard a kitten crying in distress from the shed on their grandparents' property. They soon found the source - little Petey had fallen through a hole in the loft floor straight into a mitre saw and could not get out. They carefully extricated him - miraculously unharmed - and heard more distant cries. Soon, four more kittens were found, still hidden away in a corner of the loft.

They looked to be about three weeks old, just the age when they start pulling themselves around a bit with their front legs. It was only a matter of time before the others discovered the dangers of exploring the loft. We had no choice but to rescue them.

Though we tried to trap Mom, we were unsuccessful until many weeks later, too late to reunite them. For weeks, we bottle-fed them, helped them go to the bathroom, kept them warm and dry, and showered them with love.

We had several medical concerns in the first weeks of caring for them - formula aspiration, struggling with learning to walk, and of course, we had to make sure Petey did not have any internal injuries from his fall. We dropped almost $1000 on their first medical visit, which included exams, imaging, and antibiotics. We were just grateful to get them the care they needed.

We began calling them the Zen Kitten litter because they were soothed by low humming and chanting “Om.” It put them to sleep almost immediately!

They soon learned to use a litter box and began weaning. This is when we experienced our next medical emergency. I had been gifted some kitten food that contained an ingredient they appear to be extremely sensitive to - xanthan gum. After days and days of diarrhea and vomiting, our little Charlotte had lost over 12% of her body weight, a critical loss. We rushed her to the emergency vet hospital on Memorial Day weekend, where we dropped another $1000 to save her. We are so grateful for the care she received, and that she pulled through that scary time!

Now, we are at the age where they need to receive their first vaccinations and spay/neuters. We have been working as much overtime as possible to cover their medical costs as well as the expense of food, litter, and other miscellaneous items that arise like food bowls, bigger litter boxes, etc.

We have their first vaccination appointment Thursday 6/19/25, and their spay/neuters scheduled for 7/15/25.

We have searched for the lowest cost options and are hoping to raise some funds to help cover the expense of these visits.

Any assistance is most appreciated!
