Hello folks, we are team TRAMA. A group of humans passionate about textiles and sustainability. We each have our own textile projects, but together we have decided to go one step further to create something we truly believe in.
Searching for answers to redesign the future of textile crafts we came across an abandoned textile factory full of old looms, some of them dating from the 1870s. Turns out back then the island of Mallorca was full of weaving ateliers and today only three small workshops remain.
We believe that by restoring and making use of these machines, that would otherwise end up being sold for scrap, we will not only connect with the ancient traditions of the island, but also use the transforming power of craft to generate change in the world we inhabit.
Be the change we want to see.
So call us romantics if you will, we do feel these looms have found us and they are the hope we were looking for.
Because think about it, what are the chances that one of the very few people able to restore old looms in the UK comes to Mallorca to attend XTANT, an incredible textile event, hosted by a woman who moves mountains, and three creative spirits feel the need to cross the country to help make it all happen. At that exact moment the Quetglas Llop family is desperately looking for someone to take over the old looms from their property.
Restoring these old looms and running them using renewable energy is much more sustainable than buying new modern machinery. And we know it well because it’s exactly what Daniel does.
We dream about creating an educational space/workshop/archive/mill in Mallorca which could weave new beautiful textiles (not ikats, as the island already has ateliers that weave “tela de lenguas”) Also, local artists, makers and designers would have the opportunity to use it as a workshop for their personal projects and collections.
We are lucky to have many helping hands, but this project will not succeed if we do not find the necessary funding to move, store and restore the looms.
For this first stage, we need funding for:
Renting a crane and trucks that allow us to remove the looms from their current location and move them to a safe place: €14,955
Renting two containers to store the looms and smaller pieces: €3,484
Tools and small machinery rental: €3,500 approx.
Estimated budget: €22,000
We ask for your help in the hope that together we can save these looms from the scrap yard and restore them back to their full potential.

Hola, somos TRAMA, un equipo de personas apasionadas por los textiles y la sostenibilidad. Cada uno de nosotros dedica toda su energía a sus propios proyectos textiles y juntos hemos decidido dar un paso más allá para crear algo en lo que realmente creemos.
En la búsqueda de respuestas para rediseñar el futuro de la artesanía textil nos hemos encontrado con una fábrica abandonada llena de telares antiguos, algunos de ellos datan de la década de 1870. A finales de 1800 había muchas fábricas textiles en la isla, hoy solo quedan tres.
Creemos que al restaurarlos y ponerlos en funcionamiento no sólo vamos a conectar con las antiguas tradiciones de la isla, conectaremos también con el poder transformador de la artesanía de manera individual y colectiva, generando un cambio en la manera de entender el mundo que habitamos.
Llámanos románticos, pero sentimos que estos telares nos han encontrado a nosotros y son la esperanza que estábamos buscando.
Piensa en las posibilidades de que una de las pocas personas capaces de restaurar telares antiguos en el Reino Unido ponga un pie en Mallorca, al mismo tiempo que una mujer que mueve montañas celebra un increíble evento de artesanía textil, y tres espíritus creativos sientan la necesidad de cruzar el país para estar en el exacto momento en que la familia Quetglas Llop busca desesperadamente quién se haga cargo de los telares antiguos dentro de su propiedad que de otro modo terminarían vendidos como chatarra.
Restaurar telares antiguos y ponerlos en funcionamiento usando energías renovables es mucho más sostenible que comprar maquinaria moderna. Y lo sabemos bien porque Daniel se dedica a ello.
Eso nos ha hecho soñar con crear un espacio creativo-educativo en Mallorca en el que podamos tejer telas de calidad (no ikats, porque afortunadamente aún quedan varios ateliers en la isla produciendo “tela de lenguas”), al mismo tiempo que damos la oportunidad a artesanos y diseñadores de trabajar en sus proyectos y colecciones.
Tenemos la suerte de contar con muchas manos dispuestas a ayudar, pero este proyecto no podrá salir adelante si no encontramos la financiación necesaria para trasladar, almacenar y restaurar los telares.
Durante esta primera fase necesitamos financiación para:
Alquilar un grúa y camiones que nos permitan sacar los telares de su ubicación actual y trasladarlos a un lugar seguro: 14.955€
Alquilar dos contenedores para almacenar los telares y piezas más pequeñas:
3.484€
Herramientas y alquiler de maquinaria pequeña: 3.500€ aprox.
Estimación de presupuesto: 22.000€
Te pedimos ayuda con la esperanza de que juntos podamos velar por la integridad de estos telares y traerlos de nuevo a su plenitud.
