Hello,

My name is Euzara Gonçalves, and I live in Portugal with my mother, who was diagnosed with colorectal cancer (bowel cancer) in September of last year. After the diagnosis, she came from São Tomé and Príncipe to Portugal through a medical referral to seek treatment.

Since then, we’ve been facing many challenges. My mother is receiving care at IPO (Portuguese Oncology Institute), where she has access to free medical consultations thanks to a doctor’s referral. However, there are many other costs related to her condition that we simply cannot afford on our own.

At the moment, I’m only able to work two hours a day, and although I’ve been looking for other opportunities, I haven’t yet found a job that allows us to increase our income. My earnings are not enough to cover our rent, food, and my mother’s additional medical needs.

One of the biggest challenges has been purchasing colostomy bags, which she needs to use daily. These bags are essential for her to be able to go about her needs with dignity, but they are expensive. Sometimes we’re able to get them from a specific pharmacy, but when they run out of stock, we are forced to buy them ourselves. When we don’t have access to the bags, the situation becomes extremely uncomfortable for her.

I’m creating this campaign with humility and hope, so that, with your support, we can bring a little more comfort and dignity to my mother during this very difficult time.
