This is very hard for me to write as my brother is a very prideful and independent man as well as very private. My oldest brother Curtis Bradshaw has gone through something I hope no one ever has to go through. This is a HUGE thing since it is his right foot and he is a truck driver and hasn’t been able to work for quite sometime now. His independence has been taken away from him.
Here is some history on his medical condition:
He had a sore big toe, went to the doctor they treated him for gout. BUT the treatment did not work. His toe was getting worse. They kept treating him with antibiotics and sent him to a specialist. The specialist said that his toe would have to be amputated to heal this issue. He had the amputation on his toe. HOWEVER after this amputation the infection spread like wildfire, 2 weeks later they ended up amputating below his knee.
Curtis has a long road ahead of him for recovery. He will have many appointments to get a prosthetic that is going to work well for him. Prosthetic socks, etc. He will also have many appointments for physio.
We have done the paperwork for any applicable programs that he could possibly qualify for, of course this is going to several weeks for the government to make their decisions if they will help him. In the meantime he still has payments, still needs to live, still needs to get to all of these appointments (with the majority of them 1.5hr away) we are asking if any of you can give any assistance it would be greatly appreciated.
Curtis had recently changed jobs just as this medical issue was arising and did not have any extended health care coverage from any employer.
My hope is that he will recover and be able to return to truck driving and for him to regain his independence and this will all merely be a large road block that he was able to surpass.
