Hello, my name is Denise, and I'm leading a fundraising effort for my remarkable brother, Wayne, who is 40 years old. Wayne is married to his wonderful wife, Janet, and they have two beautiful children, Emma and Charlie. In early 2024, Wayne received a devastating diagnosis of stage 4 colon cancer. Following surgery to remove a large tumor in his colon, we had hoped the cancer's progression would slow down. However, subsequent tests revealed that the cancer was spreading rapidly.
Navigating the Canadian healthcare system has been challenging. Delays in receiving necessary procedures and tests have been frustrating, especially considering the urgency of Wayne's situation. When he finally reached the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, AB, we learned that he has a BRAF mutation, for which there is currently no cure. Wayne bravely enrolled in a clinical trial, but after a lengthy four-week process, he was disappointed to discover that he had been assigned to the standard care group, missing out on the trial medication. Tragically, during this waiting period, the cancer progressed significantly.
In our relentless pursuit of options to extend Wayne's time with his loved ones, we have identified a facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, offering additional treatments to complement his ongoing chemotherapy. We are planning to travel there in May to explore these options. However, this journey comes with considerable expenses, including flights, accommodation, and additional medical costs.
We refuse to give up hope. Every additional month or year could mean more cherished moments with Wayne, celebrating birthdays and holidays together. Despite the challenges we face, we are determined to continue fighting for more time and exploring every available option. Your support in our fundraising efforts means the world to us, and we are immensely grateful for any contribution you can offer. Together, we can make a difference in Wayne's journey.
