Jason's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On September 16, 2020, my sister Kristi's husband, Jason Blubaugh, drove himself from work to the emergency room in Cumberland, MD. He had been battling flu like symptoms for three days and had a sudden onset of severe abdominal pain with nonstop vomiting. A scan showed he had a stone blocking the duct going into his pancreas (we later discovered it was a gull stone that caused all of this to unravel.) He was then transferred to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, PA where he had a ERCP to remove the stone which caused severe pancreatitis and at that point 25% damage to the pancreas. Issues with his pancreas caused a sudden onset of diabetes and mass quantities of fluid collection in his abdomen. They inserted an NG tube in his nose to drain the fluid. He had no nutrition at all for ten days and then introduced a liquid diet which he tolerated. After being admitted 12 days in the hospital, Jason was released to go home on a low carb, low fat diet (only minimal foods) on September 29, 2020.
Jason spent the next week at home doing his best trying to rest and walk five minutes at a time, but every time he would try, he would get short of breath. The fluid was rapidly building within him from his abdomen to his feet. The amount of swelling was really making it difficult for him to breathe from the amount of pressure on his lungs. Monday, October 5th, he had a follow-up appointment with his local doctor who had him walk in his office. His oxygen level dropped and the doctor was very concerned for his condition. He ordered more lab work and wanted Jason to wear oxygen all the time. The following day, his lab results showed that he needed to go to the hospital and was transferred back to UPMC Presbyterian.
Currently, Jason is fighting a battle amongst his organs- heart, lungs and abdominal cavity, all needing a certain treatment. It has been a domino effect of one system failing another. He must have his gull bladder out, but has so many other obstacles to overcome before that surgery can happen. He has an extremely long road ahead of him. Who would have thought one small gull stone could do this much damage in such a short amount of time?
We thought this would go a whole different path than the one we are traveling. We have been praying so hard for a lot of miracles to happen and we really need your prayers as well. Jason is the most phenomenal dad and husband. He means SO MUCH to so many people. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, Kristi and Jason's sister Leanne, have been the only individuals allowed to visit with him. It has been extremely taxing on both of them to say the least.
This is taking a massive emotional toll on our family as well as a financial one. If after reading all of this you find it in your heart to pray and donate to my sister, Kristi and her family, I would sincerely appreciate it. We would have rather had a benefit in some other manner, but again due to COVID that is stopping us. We appreciate anything you can offer. Thank you.
