Hi everyone! I am raising money to help pay for one of my family member’s pups, Frank! Little Frankie belongs to my brother-in-law Nate and his wife Nikki - along with their two boys, Shepherd and Benny (AND they have one more baby boy on the way)! Nikki is pregnant at home with two boys, 3 and under, while Nate works to bring in their only source of income.

 

Frankie is full of joy and loves to greet all his friends that visit him at the door with kisses and sniffs. He usually ends up leaving a tiny puddle of pee at your feet because he just can’t contain his excitement when he sees someone he loves!

 

He was having some minor back issues which are pretty normal for dachshunds, but a bad jump off of the couch lead to both of his back legs becoming paralyzed. After an MRI and exam by a neurologist, the vet confirmed that Frankie had a ruptured disc.

 

The vet laid out 3 options- a very expensive surgery to restore movement and quality of life, leave his legs paralyzed and give him a wheelchair, or unfortunately, put him to sleep. Given that he is only 4 years old and has plenty of life left to live with his family (mini dachshunds have a life expectancy of 12-16 years), they opted to go with the surgery in order to hopefully give him the best chance at enjoying his youth.

 

On Monday, December 27th, Frankie made it through his surgery with flying colors! The vet confirmed that he was far ahead of every milestone that they hoped to see in order for him to get sent home and he is on track to make a full recovery!

 

Frank has one month of strict rest in order to fully heal from his surgery which shouldn’t be too hard for a dog that loves to snuggle as much as he does. However, Nate and Nikki are now left with an immense amount of debt that they are unsure of how they will be able to pay back. They knew that the surgery was going to be the best option for him, but they weren’t in a place to pay for it. Instead, they had to put it on a credit card. With Nate bringing in their only source of income, two boys 3 and under, and a third baby due in February- they are unsure of how they will be able to pay off this debt.
