When Jose JR was 18 months he still wasn’t walking, me a little worried took him to his Dr to see what she thought, she said something has to be wrong so she sent us to UNM neurology where they found nothing wrong, his PCP still worried sent us to Denver Children’s Hospital, in 2017 they diagnosed Jose JR with Cerebral Palsy, but continued to do tests, we were sent to genetics to do some more intense blood work, well Feb 15, 2020, Jose was diagnosed with a very rare Genetic disorder called Spastic Paraplegia type 4, and they removed the diagnosis Cerebral Palsy. SPG4 affects his lower extremities, right now he is considered to have mild symptoms but which could progress throughout his life causing him to be wheelchair bound. Anyone that knows JR would say he is just like any other little boy, very active, cheerful, happy and the most lovable little boy. He’s been wanting a bicycle but with his leg conditions he can’t pedal a two wheeled bike, I’m asking to help put a big smile on my sons face to try and get him an adaptive hand tricycle. They are pretty pricey and I wish I didn’t have to ask anyone for help but my son just wants a bike to ride and have fun.
