Cash is a 10-year-old Blue Merle Australian Shepherd who came to live with my friend after his original owner, who had raised him from 10 weeks old, had to rehome him. The decision was made because his first owner married and had two small children, and Cash’s anxiety and dislike of loud noises made it difficult for him to adjust. It was a heartbreaking choice for her, but after meeting my friend and seeing her quiet home with no children or other dogs, she felt confident Cash would be well cared for.
Cash has always been a unique dog—he guards his food and toys and prefers not to share, but his loyalty and intelligence have made him a cherished companion. His high energy and playful spirit have brought a lot of joy, but recently, his life changed dramatically. Cash suffered injuries to the ACL ligaments in both of his knees after bolting across the yard, something he loved to do. Now, he’s in significant pain and can’t walk on his own. My friend and her family have been using a brace to help him with basic needs like going to the bathroom, but it’s heartbreaking to see such an active dog struggle.
Cash’s owner is a hairstylist who is known for her generosity and community spirit. She volunteers with her Jeep Group and is always doing charity work for others, never hesitating to lend a hand. She is humble and rarely asks for help herself, but now she needs support to give Cash the care he deserves. After consulting with a veterinarian, they’ve scheduled a bilateral surgery for July 10. The procedure will involve cutting a bone in each leg and joining it to the other with a bracket inside each leg, which will take the place of the failed ligaments and prevent future injuries.
The cost of the surgery is overwhelming, and my friend is reaching out for support to help cover the medical expenses. Every contribution will go directly toward Cash’s surgery and recovery, giving him the best chance at a happy, pain-free life. Your kindness will make a real difference for Cash and the family who loves him.
