Zayante Fire Station Storm Damage Recovery

Tax deductible

Zayante Fire is always proud to serve our community, and the last 10 days have been no different. The department has responded to over 100 calls for service, ranging from wires down, car accidents, mudslides, and tree clearing, to structure fires. While the crews were out serving the district 2 of our 3 stations took storm damage.

Station 2's (Lompico Road) gear storage and auxiliary building took a tree to the roof/corner of the structure. Repairs are needed before we can continue to utilize that building to house more equipment to service Lompico Canyon. Station 2 also lost its radio due to water damage. This vital piece of equipment is a major loss and compounds the already difficult communication challenges in our district.

Station 1 (7700 East Zayante Road) took significant flooding in the first round of storms on New Year's Eve. The crews were out responding to calls for service and returned to find 4-6 inches of water filling the entire first floor of the building. Copy machines, the kitchen freezer, tables, carpet, chairs, personal gear, our beverage dispenser, countless files, medical supply restock and sheetrock are all needing to be replaced.

The current cost to repair both stations is well over $75,000, with that figure likely being higher due to smaller items, and damage that has yet to be uncovered is revealed.

ZFD knows we are not alone in reeling from the effects of the storm, and we humbly ask for any help. We will always be here to protect life and property, but we would so appreciate any help to enable us to restore our resources.
