Hello everyone,
My parents tragically lost their beautiful home and everything they own in the devastating Santa Cruz Mountains fires this past week. They were evacuated so quickly that they left with only a few half empty suitcases. Anyone that knows my parents will tell you that they are incredibly strong and independent people who never seek help. Unfortunately, this loss has left them with no other option as their entire life savings were invested in the home.
My 69 year old father has worked endlessly to pay for and self-construct his dream home in their cherished Boulder Creek neighborhood. He has put everything he had into the construction of this home. Requirements for home insurance were complex; because he was the sole builder, the project was considered high risk and refused coverage until the house was 100% complete. The timing of this disaster was dire as he had only a few weeks of work left for insurance approval.
My parents are currently living with my husband and I, our three children, and dog in our three bedroom home in San Jose as we try to figure out how to recover from this disaster. While we have seeked help from organizations such as FEMA & Red Cross, given the unprecedented number of displaced people due to the fires, we are not expected to receive any relief in the near future.
In order to start piecing their life back together they need the support of generous people like you!
The funds from this campaign will be used for immediate needs including:
● rent relief
● essential items
● healthcare bills
● property tax (we are being told they will still be required to pay a pro-rated potion in December)
In the long term, with your support, they hope to rebuild to be able to return back to the place they called home. Please share far and wide to support my amazing parents in their time of tremendous need. I hope they find some comfort knowing that their community is here for them. Any contributions are greatly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts! Please know that the money raised will greatly impact my parent’s life and allow them to rebuild their dream home once again.
