Zara Mae’s second shot at life

Story

Anyone that knows me personally (Lacey) knows that my dog is one of my lifelines. If you have had the pleasure of meeting Miss Zara Mae, you know that she is incredibly sweet and loves everyone. Zara Mae was adopted in February of 2018. She was previously in a high kill shelter and was transferred up North to where I adopted her one sunny Saturday afternoon. Zara Mae was not in good shape when I got her. She had kennel cough, was underweight, and was very scared. She was only 1 when I adopted her and she spent 6 months of her life in kennels waiting for her forever home. To date, Zara has been a very healthy, active, outside loving dog that thrives off of snuggles and play time. I spent a year doing extensive dog training with her and gaining her trust. She is nothing short of the best work of love and labor.  Zara Mae quickly declined in health Monday, March 29. She was rushed to the emergency vet at UPenn on Friday, April 2 for immediate medical help. It was discovered that Zara inhaled something outside (such as hay, something from the woods, etc) which caused her to (in non doctor language), puncture her lung. She also had an infection in her lung. Zara underwent immediate surgery on Saturday, April 3. The surgery removed an entire lung node on the left side. She was left with an 8” incision and a tube in her side for monitoring any air in her belly or fluid that needs drained.  If this surgery was not completed, my little rescued girl would have passed away.  This dog is so precious. Any little bit that you can donate helps. I’m usually not the type of person to ask for help but this was not an expense I have planned for. I drained my savings account and that still will not cover the cost of her surgery and constant care.  if you cannot donate, please share on your social media page. Zara Mae is appreciative of anything you do.
