The Zapata family are pillars in the Sacramento community. From working with underserved youth, to countless hours spent on keeping the community safe, they are integral parts of the fight to end system injustice and build community. The same system they’re fighting against is now coming after them, and they need community support.

After being greatly affected by the pandemic, they were harassed by their landlord for taking advantage of COVID relief programs. Several members of the Zapata family lost their employment due to COVID-19. They were instructed by several organizations that if they provided proof they would be eligible for a rent reduction. They followed all necessary steps, sent the required paperwork, and a portion of their rent to their landlord. This was met by a barrage of abusive voicemails and threatening eviction notices (even during the eviction moratorium).

During COVID19 one of their family members living in the house suffered several serious medical emergencies that were likely exacerbated by all the stress of the harassment, causing them to be in and out of the hospital.

Currently that family member is home, in very fragile    condition, on a feeding tube, in need of surgery and expensive medication they need to survive.

This is literally a life or death situation.

In spite of the fact that they had resumed paying the full rent, the ongoing eviction notices continued.  Just moments after the eviction moratorium was lifted, they were taken to court and told they have to leave their home by July 31, 2021.

This is a community call out for funds and resources. They need a 3 bedroom house for close to $2000 month and help packing/moving.
