For anyone who knows Zakhi, you know that he is extremely smart, caring, funny and an overall loving child. Looking at him you would think he is the average kid but what you don't know is that Zakhi also has ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and
Asperger syndrome (AS). Asperger syndrome
is a pervasive developmental disorder on the autism spectrum that is often described as the mildest form of autism. Asperger syndrome is characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties, motor coordination issues, and restrictive, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior. People with Asperger syndrome tend to have many of the social and sensory issues of those with more severe forms of autism but have above average IQs and well-developed vocabularies. They may also struggle to understand subtle forms of communication like body language, humor, and sarcasm.
Although Zakhi is strong academically, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Asperger syndrome has impacted Zakhi's learning and his relationships in school. As a parents, how do you explain to your child why he's having a hard time building friendships or why he behaves a certain way when every day he tries so hard to be normal. The day he came home and asked his Grandmother "What's wrong with me? Why does my brain make me do these things?" I knew we had to do something. For years we have tried working with his pediatrician, counseling interventions through the school system, family programs to understand him and an outside therapist to give him all the support that he needs. Imagine putting a person in a room with a canvas, no paint and no brush, and expecting them to paint. They want to paint but don't have the tools so its impossible. This is what life is like every day for our son. Finally, we came across Brain Balance and realize there is hope for him to have a normal life.
The Brain Balance Program is fundamentally based on the science of neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to improve and change throughout a person’s lifetime. Their drug-free, integrated approach brings parents and kids together to achieve a common goal of improving symptoms of Asperger syndrome, leading to a more successful academic and personal life. This connectivity issue is called functional disconnection syndrome, an imbalance in hemispheric brain communication that is at the root of many learning and developmental issues.
It cost $6,500 to enroll in the 3 month program that includes him going to the Brain balance center 3 days a week, strict nutrition guides and support, as well as at home ongoing exercises to permanently change his life. We would like to send Zakhi to Brain Balance and we are asking for your help to change his life. The thought of waking up and being afraid to send him to school because he runs into the woods from being frightened, or he wishes himself gone because no one understands him or what is happening within, that he has no control over. We are not asking for you to donate your entire savings or even a portion of your paycheck, we are grateful for anything you can contribute; every dollar counts. This would mean the world to me, Zakhi and our entire family.
