This is a campaign to raise funds and support for Zak Mastey and his family. This past summer Zak started having issues with double vision and a lazy right eye. This was a very sudden change. Zak went to see an optometrist who did try to correct the issue with prescriptions glasses and a prism. But a lazy eye to occur at Zak’s age is very out of the norm. The optometrist thankfully ordered a an MRI of his head. The MRI showed that Zak has a tumor growing on the back of his brain on the right side near his brain stem. At this time they are about 85% sure this tumor is not cancerous but they will not be sure until the biopsy is completed. This is affecting the 4th trochlear nerve, 5th trigeminal nerve, and 6th abducent nerve. The trochlear nerve is what controls eye movement, while the trigeminal nerve controls facial sensation along with movements such as biting and chewing. The abducent nerve is what controls the eye muscles that also control eye motion.
Zak is now working with doctors through UW-Madison to treat. Zak will be having more testing done over the next 3 weeks. Zak will then be having extensive brain surgery in Madison to remove the tumor due to its location. This surgery could last anywhere from 6 to 10 hours. They already know that the 4th and 6th nerve have lost complete function and that there is a chance the 5th nerve will as well. If this occurs he will require more surgery. This will require Zak to be in the ICU for 1-2 day then another 2-3 days in a step down unit.
Zak will then be required to be off of work for 6-8 weeks.

We are aiming for $5,000.00 to help support Zak and his family due to the large medical bills from seeing specialist, to surgery, hospital stay, and extensive home recovery. Even though they will be down to one income, Zak’s family still needs to pay for their personal bills.
Our hope is to take some of the weight and worry off their shoulders.
