Zak Endress Avid Yukon Mountain Biker
Hey folks - Zak here. First, I want to send a huge THANK YOU to everybody who has donated to my Go Fund Me. I really appreciate all the support you have provided and also all the people who have come to visit me!
It has now been a full month since my accident and after three long weeks in the spinal cord unit at VGH I was moved to G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre last Thursday, and have started the long road to recovery!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Monday April 1st I was medevaced to Vancouver General Hospital from Whitehorse, Yukon with an acute spinal injury from a biking accident and almost immediately underwent emergency spinal surgery. I am still currently paralyzed below the pectorals. Anyone that knows me, knows that my smile shines brightest when I am on my bike. Whether doing shuttle laps with friends or coaching the youth of Whitehorse, when I swing a leg over a bike my face immediately lightens up and there is a sparkle in my eyes that you won't find anywhere else. Bikes have been my community since a very young age, and now my family and I need the support of the community to help with this life changing event. I will be at G.F. Strong for 2 to 3 months before I will be returning home...
There are many costs that come with adapting to a spinal cord injury:
- helping my family with costs to stay with me in Vancouver
- renovating our home for mobility impaired
- adaptation and purchase of specialized equipment to ensure I can get out and about
This is a big journey for me and my family and we are giving a shout out for help!
Please touch base with me by phone or text at (867) [phone redacted], and if you are passing through Vancouver please don't hesitate to swing by and say hi!
Any amount is appreciated. THANK YOU AGAIN EVERYONE!!
