Zaire Strong: A Child's Brain Tumor Fight
Hello Family, Friends, and Visitors
One day after Zaire's 8th birthday, we decided to take him to the emergency room after noticing slurred speech and tripping over his feet. We first thought it was a concussion. Nothing. I mean nothing, prepared us for the diagnosis we received on February 6th, diagnosing our handsome, intelligent, smart, athletic, fun-loving, Pokemon-playing boy with an inoperable brain tumor.
Devasted by the diagnosis, we were all prepared to FIGHT! Zaire, by now, understood his diagnosis and was also preparing to fight.
A few days later, we received more devasting news. After conducting a biopsy, we were told the tumor was aggressive, and we needed to start radiation right away. Zaire began 6-weeks of radiation, five days a week, all while finishing 2nd grade, in which he received excellent grades. His treatment center was wonderful. They were all so kind and even decorated his radiation mask-like Spider-Man.
After finishing his radiation treatment, Zaire qualified for an investigational drug. During the week, Zaire has many trips to see his specialist, including Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapist.
Today, the awful tumor has now affected his speech, walking, swallowing, and talking. We are still hopeful. We believe in God, and fully believe our boy is a miracle.
We want to thank everyone that has supported us thus far in your prayers, phone calls, food, and money. We still have a long road ahead as we change course to traveling more, additional medications, medical bills, and things needed around the house to support Zaire to be more comfortable.
Many have wanted to find out how they can help often, so we decided to set up this page where you can donate and get updates on his progress. Nothing is impossible with God! #ZaireStrong
