Caring for Noor and the Munaf Family in their time of Grief
We are writing on behalf of our dear friends, coworkers, and neighbors–Syukur, Karim, their mother, Noor, and their entire family. In late August, Syukur and Karim and their family drove urgently to Phoenix, AZ to care for their very sick sister Zaidah, and her four young children. After staying a week with her in the hospital, they realized they could better care for Zaidah and her kids if they brought them back to Greeley, CO. Due to the severity of Zaidah’s liver infection, she was immediately hospitalized when she arrived. While some family members attended her in the hospital in Greeley, others were busy caring for her kids, enrolling 3 of them in elementary and 1 in middle school, hoping to give these precious ones some stability amidst so much turmoil in their little lives.

Sadly, doctors were unable to stabilize Zaidah in the hospital, and she was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Denver. After a week of acute care in Denver for both liver disease and tuberculosis that had infected her bloodstream, Zaidah’s frail body succumbed to her infections and she passed away on Wednesday night, September 24, 2025.

As is their religious custom, the grieving family buried their sister/daughter/mom on Thursday, September 25, with prayers and a small service. Now our dear friends are facing a mountain of financial and logistical issues from the trauma and loss their entire family has just been through.

Many people are asking, how can we help?

Every member of the Munaf family has stepped up to support Zaidah, and now, more urgently the children she left behind. But no one in our community should have to carry such a heavy burden alone. We as friends, coworkers, and neighbors want to mourn with them and carry this burden together with them—to lighten their load in even the smallest way.

This dear family is now facing overwhelming costs they have incurred for the death and burial process, and many more logistics of the medical system they are still trying to navigate. Their biggest need is to make sure Zaidah’s four children have all they need to settle into their new family and community context.

It would be amazing if as a community we could come alongside this precious family by flooding them with the financial support they need to get through this difficult time so that they can welcome their nieces and nephews into their family home from a place of generosity. The children’s father is not in the picture and while the family grieves the loss of their sister, they welcome these four precious ones as God’s gift into their care.

Please join us however you can. Even if it’s small, it’s a way to let this dear family know they are so loved and cared for in our community. It is our honor to mourn with them and help them carry this heavy burden—together.
