Hi, my name is Zac Nicholson. I’m 13 years old and currently attend 1st Lindfield Scouts. Following a tough selection process, I was recently lucky enough to be selected to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ25) in South Korea, 2023. Here, I will join 11 other Scouts from Mid Sussex, 4,500 from the UK, and over 40,000 from across the world for a once in a lifetime experience. I’ve been part of Scouting for over 7 years and my experience so far has been incredible; however, opportunities like this are a whole new level.

 

WSJs are a once-in-a-lifetime experience, offering an unlimited gain in life and social skills, confidence, leadership, knowledge, and new adventures; the list goes on! As well as this, I will be able to meet and make friends with many new people from several different backgrounds, become familiar with cultures I never knew existed and try new things I've never dreamt of doing. For someone who has never left Europe, a trip like this to South Korea will be an opportunity of a lifetime.

 

The Mid Sussex contingent I am part of, will be working hard over the next 18 months to fund raise to enable us to attend the Jamboree in 2023. With the support of my contingent, I hope to reach my fundraising target of £3,500 to turn this opportunity into a reality. This Jamboree’s motto is ‘Think Big. Dream Wild. Act Together’ with dreams of promoting and achieving a sustainable world where everyone is welcome. As a group of young people, we are very aware of the impact our actions may have on the environment, so we have committed to making a positive difference with our fundraising. So far on this journey, I’ve tried my utmost to incorporate this into my fundraising, such as recycling over 100 Christmas trees to reduce waste; as well as offering support to those in my local community. I hope to continue to include this ethos into my fundraising efforts, with lots of ideas such as litter picks, recycling rubbish, and selling items through car boot and nearly new sales to encourage sustainability within our community. 

The amount that we raise will not only cover our expenses, but will also support Scouts in developing countries around the World to also be able to have the opportunity to attend this amazing event. Having met Jamborettes that have attended previous Jamborees, I am so excited to be able to attend this amazing event and know that this whole experience will be life changing.
