On  June 6th, 2019 our son Zachary Sanders was admitted to the emergency department blue and unresponsive. For two weeks he fought for his life in the ICU on a ventilator with neuro paralysis. He couldn’t open his eyes, breath on his own or move his arms and legs.

With each new medical test we kept thinking that we would have an answer and that he would improve, but instead there were new complications for Zac and his care team to overcome.  On day 5, we thought we lost him. Our family and friends prayed, cried, loved and fought for him each hour.  And he was fighting with us too.

After 2 weeks on the ventilator Zac was transferred to a Tracheotomy and started neuro toxicity and neuro autoimmune disease treatments.

Zac’s body is responding to the neurological disease treatments, he is starting to move his arms and can write a little bit. But he’s not able to breath on his own yet and remains in critical condition. 

We feel extremely blessed that Zac has made some progress in the right direction, but there are so many unknowns for Zac’s road to rehabilitation and full mobility. We are still waiting for test results for the cause of the neuro autoimmune disease. 

We anticipate that he will continue to stay in the ICU for many weeks and will eventually be transferred to a long term rehabilitation home.

Zac is a fighter, it’s one of the qualities we love about him.  Thank you all for your prays and support. We will continue to update you on his progress and recovery.
