Zack's Mountain Part II

Thank you for taking the time to read about Zack's journey. Zack is my nephew, he and his family live outside of Cincinnati OH. They are your typical family of 5...mom, dad, Zack and his younger brother and sister. They love the lord, work hard, consistently do the right thing and have lived their lives believing it is always better to give than to receive.

The typical family part of the story went sideways 5 years ago on January 11, 2016 when Zack, at the age of 15 was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Needless to say it was a shock to all of us; the lives of Zack and his family would never be the same. Zack is a warrior! He has endured years of chemo, multiple surgeries and lost one his legs to bone cancer. Through it all he remained upbeat, positive and was the poster child for the phrase "will to win".

Every 6 months for the past 3 years Zack has went in for scans to ensure the cancer had not returned. Anyone who has gone through this knows it is literally a breath holding event. On Wednesday August 4, 2021 Zack and his parents went in for his 5 year scan. The 5 year scan is a big deal as this is the point where if given the "all clear" we can start using the word "remission".

Unfortunately, the scan's came back showing a mass in his abdomen region. He was asked to come back for additional tests. Remission will have to be put on the back burner for now as he was told he had 2 types of leukemia, it is referred to as acute lypmphoblastic mixed phenotype leukemia. As his father stated "leave it to Zack the overachiever to not be content with one type".

Zack has another mountain to climb! He will do it with a smile on his face, joy in his heart and the grit and determination needed to win this battle. That is just how he is wired!
