Zachary Lyon Memorial Fund

With shattered hearts and unfathomable sadness, we announce the tragic death of Zachary Lyon, Jr. He is gone too soon from our lives and is deeply missed, but the magnitude in which he impacted the lives of others will continue to live on. Zack died on June 25th due to injuries from a horrific motorcycle accident on June 21st . He gave the ultimate gift of life to others through organ donation.

Zack was 24 years old, a Ssgt in the U.S. Air Force at Tinker AFB. During high school, he was enrolled in JROTC all four years and joined the Air Force shortly after graduation. Zack worked his way to crew chief for the AWACS in the 552d. His plan after his military service was to attend pharmacy school, inspired after working as a pharmacy tech during high school at Hayes Barton Pharmacy in Raleigh, NC.

His death was unexpected and has shocked his family, friends, and fellow Airmen. None of us were prepared for what goes along with planning the memorial and sorting out and settling Zack’s life. Our family, Zack’s parents, younger brother, two older brothers, two older sisters, step sister, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews are all suffering the unimaginable. Zack’s constant companion the last three years, Sully, his Australian shepherd, has had his life forever changed as well.

We have made a promise to look after him and love him for the rest of his life, a promise made to Zack before he last deployed.

We are raising money to help cover the costs of the memorial service for Zack, to help bring family back to NC, to be present as we honor Zack for his incredible impact on the lives of others, for his military service to our country, with full military honors and fulfill his final wishes to have his ashes scattered in the North Carolina mountains, a place he called home for half his life. Please help us bring family together one more time to remember Zachary. Any excess money will be donated to Wounded Warrior Project and Wake County Animal Center in memory of Zack.
