On November 25th, the Gibson family, long-time residents of Milton, experienced the unimaginable loss of their beloved son, Zachary, who passed away at the age of 14 1/2 from an aggressive brain tumour. Zach fought with a strength and courage far beyond his years and he was deeply loved by everyone who knew him.
Unfortunately his journey with cancer was a lengthy one. Before this most recent battle, Zach was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) at the young age of 7. After a bone barrow transplant 5 1/2 years ago, He bravely overcame it.
Through every challenge, he remained humble and kind, rarely complaining about the cards he was dealt.
Throughout Zach’s end of life journey, the Gibson family received extraordinary care and support from Emily’s House, a paediatric hospice that provided comfort, dignity, and compassion during the hardest moments a family can face. In honour of the incredible support they provided, 50% from this GoFundMe will be donated directly to Emily’s House.
The remainder (50%) of the funds will go toward helping the Gibson family navigate the overwhelming emotional and financial burdens that come with years of hospital visits and ultimately, such a profound loss.
The Gibson family has shown unimaginable strength, and our community now has the chance to wrap them in love, support, and comfort.
Any amount is deeply appreciated. Thank you for helping honour Zach’s memory and support a family who has endured more than any family ever should.
A future fundraiser in collaboration with the Milton Winterhawks will be held at a later date with all proceeds being donated to support paediatric cancer research.
