Help Zach Fight Back
Donation protected
As most of you know, Zach was diagnosed with a rare form of Ewing Sarcoma, a pediatric bone cancer, in October 2019. Doctors found a large mass (comparable to a softball) in his stomach. Zach endured 8 months of chemo treatments and surgery to remove 90% of his stomach, 40% of his pancreas and his entire spleen to remove the tumor and surrounding compromised areas. He received his last dose of chemo on August 28, 2020. We were so thrilled to have this chapter behind us and celebrate Zach being cancer free!
Almost a year to the date, Zach had a routine CT scan. The analyst noticed two enlarged lymph nodes in his abdomen, which the doctors wanted to have biopsied immediately. Our worst fear was confirmed when we were told the sarcoma had returned. There are few words that can describe the worst kind of deja vu. Just when we thought life was going back to normal, we had to start back at square one.
Zach will begin chemo treatments starting September 13 for 18 weeks until we discuss another plan for surgery. From there, there are many treatment plans which include more chemo, radiation and even immunotherapy. Whatever the plan may be, we know Zach can fight this terrible disease again.
Although we know what to expect this go around, there are always uncertainties. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we journey down this long road again.
