Hello! Momma Amy here!
Yesterday Zach experienced a freak horrific accident.
As many of you know, Zach’s hobby is woodworking. He has made some beautiful pieces quietly in his garage.
Yesterday started like any other day at his lathe. The machine began to make a weird noise mid project. Next thing Zach knew, the piece he was working on exploded inches from his face.
He was taken by ambulance from Estacada to Mt. Hood Medical center. After a CT scan, they emergency transported him to Good Samaritan hospital. We met with an amazing ophthalmologist last night who was able to get Zach’s eye stabilized enough to wait for surgery until this morning.
Zach has suffered a deep laceration to his eye lid and a ruptured eye globe. It gets tricky in the fact that Zach is a type 1 diabetic and already suffers eye issues because of that. By the grace of God, whatever hit him missed his cornea by a squeak! The doctor is pretty confident he will be able to restore the sight in his eye completely.
Zach will be going in to surgery at 7:30am today (Saturday) to repair the laceration which is scratching his cornea when he blinks, and to repair the laceration to the globe of his eye.
To make things more difficult, Zach is currently laid off of work and has been keeping the family afloat with unemployment and selling his wood pieces. I created this GoFundMe to help take some of the stress off Zach with some household expenses while he heals.
Please join us in praying for the surgeon, the staff caring for him, and for quick healing.
We love you all!! I will post updates here throughout today and through Zach’s recovery.
