Hi! For those that don’t know me, my name is Jenny and my husband is Josh. We’ve been together since I was 14 and he was 15. This might be long, so I will break it down into sections. I want to share with you our journey and how we’ve overcome incredible challenges together. Josh has had epilepsy since his early 20s, and although his medication has controlled it most of the time, when he does have a seizure, it’s always a clonic tonic seizure followed by a psychosis state. Despite the difficulties we face, we remain strong and supportive of each other.
On Feb 16th, 2024, our lives changed forever. Josh had a seizure while driving to work and went down a 300-foot ravine. His car was totaled, but thankfully, he survived. This incident made us realize that Josh needed to stop working, and I’m grateful that I can work from home to take care of him. Josh’s neurological team tried different medications, but they didn’t work due to major side effects. He was having seizures every two months, and it was taking a toll on both of us.
In May 2024, my oldest daughter and grandchild moved in with us, and Josh didn’t have another seizure until January 30th, 2025. I was working from home that day, and my Great Dane alerted me to Josh’s first seizure. It was a small one, and he was able to answer my questions and go back to sleep. However, 30 minutes later, he had another seizure, and this one was much worse. I had to use my body weight to prevent him from suffocating, and it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. I called 911. Josh was in a psychosis state and became violent with me. When EMS arrived, Josh was able to answer questions and go back to sleep. However, he had another seizure, and this time, he couldn’t wake up. The EMS took him to the hospital, and my youngest daughter and I drove up. On the way there, we both said when we got there we wanted so bad to hear him say, “I want to go home” or “I need a cigarette.” When we arrived, we were anxious to see him awake, but that didn’t happen. Josh had another seizure in the ambulance, and when we finally saw him, he was still non-responsive. This day will forever be in my brain. It wasn’t until the next day that he started talking, but we quickly realized that something was wrong. His memory was affected, and he couldn’t remember things from 10-15 minutes ago. We were devastated, but we remained hopeful. Josh was discharged from the hospital after 5-6 days, and we’ve been working together to help him recover. It’s been a challenging journey, but we’re taking it one day at a time. Josh has made significant progress, and we’re grateful for every small victory. His memory is improving, and he’s able to create new memories. We’re not sure how long he’ll keep them, but we’re hopeful that he’ll continue to improve. Some days are better than others, and it’s hard to see Josh struggle with his memory and emotions. But despite the challenges, we remain strong and supportive of each other. We know that we’ll get through this together, but we do need your help if you are able.
We are starting this fundraiser because we need help. From January until now, it’s been just our immediate family doing everything we can to hold each other up—physically, emotionally, and financially. We’ve leaned on one another. But as the months go on, we’ve realized that we can’t carry this alone anymore. It’s time to reach out, to ask for help, and to trust in the kindness of others as we try to move forward.
Our goal is to relocate to a home that will better support Josh's healing needs and move closer to family. We are also facing increasing medical bills, daily living expenses, and transportation (gas) for frequent appointments. Every day is a balancing act of care, work, and hope—and we simply can’t do it alone anymore.
Your donation will go directly toward:
• Prepping our home to move and moving expenses
• Medical bills and ongoing treatment
• Gas to and from appointments
• Basic living expenses while Josh is unable to work
If you’re unable to give financially, sharing this page would mean the world to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love and support as we try to rebuild our lives.
With gratitude,
The Jacobs
