Hi, my name is Greg Comer. I am the proud father of three wonderful, Godly young men, one of whom has been in and out of multiple hospitals in the last 10 months and is preparing for life-changing surgery.
On April 30, 2021, Andrew Comer,
a 19 year old college student at the time, went into Jackson General Hospital in Ripley, West Virginia for a routine appendectomy. The surgery took an unusual amount of time for this type of procedure (just shy of 5 hours). While we were concerned, the doctor assured us that everything was fine and he would be back on his feet in no time. Within 48 hours Andrew was having severe abdominal pain that would not subside. He was taken back to the ER where they ran CT scans and other tests to try and locate the issue. After 5 days or so in the local hospital and with nothing helping to lower his white blood cell count; we decided to move him to Camden Clark hospital in Parkersburg, West Virginia. It was there that things began to go downhill even faster. He began to develop multiple abscesses and fluid build-up behind his lungs. After multiple additional procedures (totaling 6 by this time), the problem persisted. In the coming days, Andrew would have 900mL of fluid behind his left lung causing a collapse of the lung and a terrifying moment in our lives. He struggled desperately to get his breathing back to normal and we began to pray even more fervently for his recovery. After 12 days in this hospital and in the Critical Care wing for the majority of the time; we were told that we should try Ohio State University or Cleveland Clinic as they had exhausted their efforts there. We were approved to transport him to OSU-Columbus, Ohio, and left late one night to move him. He spent 5 days in Columbus where they drained his fluid through his abdomen and a port was placed in his back to help keep fluids off of him. Through many courses of antibiotics, he seemed to be doing well and he was discharged. What seemed like a happy day, was just another day. Over the next several months, he would be in and out of the hospital until, one day, we took him to the ER at Ruby Memorial in Morgantown, West Virginia. They determined that he would need his ileum removed and part of his cecum at which time they would reroute his intestines to make it all work. Andrew has surgery scheduled for February 27, 2023. If you can do nothing else, please pray! If you feel you can financially contribute, that would be appreciated. He has accumulated almost $200,000 in medical bills and growing. Thank you.
