Meet Maverick AKA Ricky, a one year old boy from the Grande Prairie area. Maverick is a happy and playful boy that lives with his Mom, Dad, and three older siblings. At 23 weeks gestation he was diagnosed with congenital heart disease.
At birth, Ricky was diagnosed with Pulmonary Artesia with VSD, ASD, and TOF, which combined creates a rare condition. Ricky is doing so well and making it to his first year is a miracle in itself, according to doctors and rare, about 5% making it to their first birthday and only 8% making it to 10 yrs old.
At 3 days old Maverick had open heart surgery, where they corrected the VSD (Ventrical Septal Defect), ASD (Atrial Septal Defect), and put in a patch to make the Pulmonary valve.
At 6 months old he had a stint put in the left branch artery via Cath surgery through the groin. All this within his first year has taken a toll on him, caused him to be dependant on an NG feeding tube since birth.
Maverick has an upcoming surgery at Stollery in Edmonton to have a G tube put in, he is also looking at a full valve replacement in the future and whatever else may arise.
Any regular day can change, we've had plenty of times where we are having a normal day with the family to dropping everything to run him to the hospital.
Not only are we looking for a community of support, but help and support for future medical expenses including special clothes for his feeding tubes, and supplies for at home care.
We thank you all so much for your support, and hope to find a community that can help rally around us and make Miracles for Maverick happen!
