My husband of 27 years Mike Diamond came down with a staph infection on 4/8/2014. He was take away in an ambulance and has not been home since. He has had 5 hip surgeries (the infection settled in is artificial hips on both sides) and as of the last surgery they took his right hip out completely.
Before he came down with the Staph infection he had already been diagnosed with some liver problems. With all of the surgeries, antibiotics and medicine his liver began to fail. We were told that once we got rid of the infection we could get him on the transplant list. We found out this week he is not a candidate for the transplant due to the infection still being active in his body. We have been told that they have exhausted everything they can do for him medically. They are suggesting Hospice.
I have found out that my insurance does not pay for room and board at hospice facilities. These expenses need to be paid out of pocket. I have exhausted all of the assets we have in medical expenses up to this point.
I am asking for help in getting him into a facility that can care for him and keep him comfortable and pain free in his last days. The doctor told me today they feel it will be 2 to 4 weeks. Any help you can give would be appreciated.
We as a family, I have 2 sons that are 24 & 19, are heartbroken to say the least. We just want to be able to care for him the the best way possible while he is still here with us.
