Flood Assistance for the Hollis Family Farm

Donation protected
David and Dean have organised this on behalf of our parents, Wendy and Rod Hollis. Any amount you can spare is greatly appreciated.

The damages far exceed $100 000 but that is an estimated amount to rebuild the house/make the farm operational again.

Most of the animals pictured here did not survive the flood. This area of land, the highest point on the farm, was completely underwater.

On the night of Friday 19th March 2021, the Mid North Coast was hit with record breaking torrential flooding, causing millions of dollars’ worth of damage. Living on a farm outside of Wauchope, Mum and Dad were some of the hardest hit. By midnight that night they were on an SES rescue boat watching as their cars, horses, cows, sheds and generational family home went underwater. It was an incredibly traumatic and distressing 48 hours, not knowing how many of the animals had drowned, if the house was destroyed, if there was anything left to go back to.

When the floodwaters had subsided enough to return to the farm, the damage was evident. 90% of the house contents were destroyed. Family photos, furniture, electronics, birth certificates, and everything in between. The carpet was covered in an inch of mud, sewage had come back up out of the bathroom, the kitchen and bathrooms collapsed inwards from water damage, dead cows (both of our own and of our neighbours) littered around the farm, the place was a nightmare. Our dear pony Sugar, some 20-something years old, was amongst the dead animals that had washed up to the fence lines. It has been an incredibly heart-breaking time for our family.

The entry of the house after the floodwaters dropped.

The hallway into the kitchen.

We’ve managed to remove all of the destroyed contents, bury/burn our dead animals, and salvage what was salvageable. Mum, Dad and our dog have a place to stay with family nearby, and have started taking the necessary steps to make the farm operational again.
The lounge room.

Unfortunately, our family could not afford the $38 000 annual fee for flood insurance for the property. While there are years’ worth of rebuilding to do, making the house liveable again for Mum and Dad is our priority.

The bathroom (after cleaning all the sewage). The sink and cupboards were destroyed, as well as the lino flooring. The same damage was found in the kitchen, and both rooms need to be completely rebuilt.

A destroyed shed on the property.

Any money donated will go directly to costs associated with rebuilding/making the house/farm liveable again, from replacing floorboards to installing the kitchen/bathroom, relevelling the house, buying feed for the cattle etc.

Our dear little pony Sugar, one of the many losses that no amount of money will be able to replace.

We’ve already been incredibly humbled by the support shown by the Port Macquarie-Hastings community, and appreciate any amount you can spare. Please also share this link so others have the chance to see our story and donate.

Thank you so much for your support in this very difficult time.
