This past year has been full of unexpected challenges for my sweet niece, Ava. At just 13 years old, she has undergone two major back surgeries due to scoliosis—one planned and one unexpected. While her first surgery last August was supposed to begin the path to healing, her recovery quickly became more complicated than anyone anticipated.
Her first surgery in August was meant to be the beginning of healing. But as the months passed, Ava struggled through a painful recovery. Then, her family received devastating news: a piece of the hardware from first surgery had come unattached, causing her curve to worsen and a painful bump to form on her back. Despite their best efforts, her parents felt they weren’t getting the care Ava needed and bravely sought a second opinion. That led to an unexpected second surgery that took place on Friday, June 20th. The surgery was long and so far recovery has been painful and difficult but Ava is doing well.
Through it all, Ava has shown such strength and grace. But the toll has been heavy. Emotionally, physically, and financially. The cost of two surgeries, follow-up appointments, specialist visits, time away from work, and ongoing care has created a serious financial strain on her parents, Terry and Alison.
This is where we come in.
I’ve created this GoFundMe to help ease that burden so Ava’s family can focus on what truly matters, helping Ava heal and feel like herself again. Your gift will go directly towards Ava's medical bills for both surgeries, follow-up care and physical therapy.
Even if you can’t donate, sharing this page and lifting Ava in prayer means the world to us. Every ounce of support helps. I do ask that you please not share this page on social media.
Ava is kind, creative, strong, and full of light. Let’s come together and help her family focus on what matters most—her full recovery and return to the joys of childhood.
Thank you so much for your generosity, love, and prayers.
