On July 5th, our world changed. My grandma was rushed to the ER after her body began convulsing. She’s been courageously fighting Parkinson’s disease and neuropathy for the past five years, but that day, she completely lost her ability to walk or stand.

Doctors said it was no longer safe for her to return home, so she was transferred to a rehab facility. We were told she’d receive extensive daily physical therapy, but sadly, that wasn’t the reality. The facility is more like a nursing home, overcrowded, with two other patients in her small room. She only receives physical therapy twenty minutes some days and is given a shower just once a week. Because they haven’t gotten her out of the bed her left foot is now turning inward and won’t sit flat.

The first 15 days were covered by insurance there, but, that coverage has ended (on July 22nd) and the cost is now falling entirely on our family.

We are trying to bring Grandma home, where she can receive the love, dignity, and care she truly deserves. We scheduled an urgent appointment (on July 25th) to get her approved for home care, which would provide up to 34 hours per week. But it has not been approved yet and today is July 28th. She also will still need 24-hour care, and we can’t do this alone.

We’re asking for your help to raise funds for:

• A hospital bed / medical equipment

• Shower and bathroom modifications to make our home accessible

• Hiring a CNA or caregiver to help provide 24/7 support

• The transportation costs of safely bringing Grandma home

My mom is a single parent, still working to support our family while raising two children. She’s doing everything she can, but we need your support now more than ever.
