Help Ann Schuler

Donation protected
Earlier this week our beloved, Infant & Toddler teacher, Ann Schuler, was involved in a serious car accident and was airlifted to the hospital. She is currently stable, but she sustained injuries to her spine resulting in damage to her C1, C2, and C3 in her neck, and a fracture of the pelvis and broken T12, which will require a plate. Bleeding in the brain is still a concern. She is in pain, but conscious. Even if everything goes well, we know there will be a long road to full recovery. She is grateful for your prayers and messages and for any help you can give her family at this time.

UPDATES:
Monday, 1/24/22 - Ann was airlifted to the hospital where she was initially admitted as a Jane Doe. Her husband, David, was allowed to be with her in the ER, but because of COVID restriction was not allowed to stay with her once she was admitted to the ICU. As best we know: Ann was hit by a truck on the passenger's side sometime between 1-2p in Woodstock. Other people were hurt as well and taken by ambulance. In the hospital, the doctors quickly ascertained she had a broken pelvis and fractures in the neck. The good news is she was conscious, talking, and able to move all her limbs.

Tuesday 1/25/22 - Ann was moved to the surgical floor and had an MRI. She has been eating and interacting with hospital staff. The family was able to get her personal items out of the wrecked vehicle and deliver her phone to her. She is accepting texts, but please, no phone calls at this time.  David is dealing with medical, auto insurance, towing, adjusters, hospital admissions, agents, and car trouble. Ann's children are with their dad and safe, but very anxious and waiting for more news.

Wednesday 1/26/22 - Doctors determined the T12 in Ann's back is broken and will require a plate. They are waiting and monitoring the fractures in the C1, C2, and C3 of the spine in her neck. Bleeding of the brain is still a concern. Pelvic fracture is above the leg joint. She is experience pain, but is alert and making lists. She is sleeping and responding to text messages when she is able.

We're happy to report the surgeons have determined Ms. Ann will not need surgery for her C1,C2 and C3 fractures but that a neck brace for 6 weeks will be sufficient for her to heal.  Wow, that is good news!  At this point, the only surgery will be for her T12.  Her brain bleed is being watched, but not considered dangerous.

Thursday, 1/27/22 - We received an update from Ann's sister, Ellen, today. Wonderful news: The doctors are now saying all Ann's injuries are nonsurgical. We know there is still a long road of recovery ahead, but she is starting physical therapy and beginning to move about. Ann is hopeful she might be released in the next few days.

Friday, 1/28/22 - We are hearing there may be a chance Ann will be discharged from the hospital as early as tomorrow with follow up care from a nurse. There is a Meal Train set up at https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/wznm0q for food or gift cards. We are working on coordinating grocery deliveries.
