Due to a major unforseen setback recently, I am in desperate need of temporary financial help for my family. I have been with my wife for 18 plus years and I am the proud father of 5 kids from age 6 to 23. I was the sole supporter of my family and did well supporting them until recently when I was faced with having absolutely no choice but to self surrender myself to incarceration for an alleged crime I did not commit and will continue to fight against as long as I possibly can. In the meantime, my wife was a stay at home mother for our 2 youngest children (made as a mutual decision) and was not employed. She has been looking for employment everyday now for the past couple of months but has not had an employment offer as of yet. Due to this horrible situation, I had no choice but to leave them without any income what so ever. Until my wife lands employment, she and my 4 kids who still live at home are in a bad financial crisis just trying to pay for the bare necessities like utilities, water, auto insurance, phone service, medical bills and copays along with any and everything that must be paid for on an ongoing, monthly basis. This fund is solely to help them to survive and pay for only the basic needs until she is employed and can catch up on the bills. Every dollar counts and is deeply appreciated. It's been a very hard time and I cannot thank everyone who has already helped, in any way, enough. It's hard enough to accept the position I am in right now let alone feel as if I have no choice but to beg for help through the public. Anything you can do to help will not go unrecognized or unappreciated. I thank everyone for their kindness in advance.
Below is my story behind this insanely unbelievable conviction.
I’m a .NET programmer contracted 2004 – 2006 through the company I worked for to modify and develop an online pharmacy application. I saw my role as a programmer assigned to the online pharmacy by the company I work for. The federal government did not see it that way and indicted me in 2010 for conspiracy to distribute Schedule 3 controlled substances, conspiracy to distribute Schedule 4 controlled substances, and money laundering (for my role in setting up the pharmacy’s credit card processing and payments). No narcotics were sold by the online pharmacy. I went to trial and I was convicted on all three charges. I appealed the convictions and also lost the appeal and am now facing having to surrender for a sentence of 36 months in prison.
The application I worked on used physicians licensed in the United States to review on line questionnaires submitted by individuals requesting prescriptions. The physicians could approve or deny the requests and medication was issued only after a prescription had been issued by a U.S. physician and processed through a licensed pharmacy in the United States (whose pharmacist decided whether or not to dispense the medication). Before being sent to the pharmacy, the prescription was sent through a duplicate logic to ensure the prescription was not too early for dispensing. If the prescription was issued, the pharmacy printed out the electronically signed prescription and shipped the medication either via FedEx, UPS, or DHL requiring an adult signature before the delivery.
Bottom Line – I want to make sure all of my fellow programmers understand the risks of working as a programmer in this context. I don’t want anyone to go through what I have lived through for the past 5 years and now face. I’m happily married with five wonderful children that are my life, but I am running out of options. In fact, the only option I have left is to file a petition for habeas corpus but I have no funds. The retainer fee alone is too much to handle. Without reaching out for help and donations, I will be starting my sentence very soon and my family and I will lose everything we have, which includes our home that 2 of our children have lived in since they were born. I have been laid off of work for over a month now and my wife is currently looking for employment to be able to provide for the kids by herself but has had no luck so far. My time is running out. I’m looking to my peers, fellow programmers, friends and anyone who cares to have it their heart to help a programmer get justice.
