Chris Carey Cancer Fund

Hello,

This is my father, Chris Carey. He is a hard-working, family oriented, genuine man that has recently been diagnosed with Stage T4 cancer. It is called GIST, a rare form of cancer, and requires very pricey treatment. My name is Alan and I am trying to raise money for his medical bills.

Chris is a father to four sons, me being one of them. He has raised all of us to be the best men we can be. None of us could ever ask for a more loving father. Whenever I see him, I can tell how proud he is of all of us. My mother, Jeanette, is the same way. She is Chris’ wife, but also his best friend. Chris is only 46, but has a brand new granddaughter named Sophie (shown in the photo) and he has spent every available moment with her. It’s terrible to think that he might not be around to see her grow up.

Chris’ brother, Jeff, recently passed away and it also has been very hard on our family. As a result of his passing, Chris brought in his niece Sunnie and her son Ezra to help take care of them during the horrible time. Since then Chris has helped them build a new life, and they are now doing very well.

He is also a well-known individual in the community for giving back. In the Town of Clifton Forge, there isn’t much for kids, and so many of them partake in drug, and alcohol abuse. With the help of his family, and multiple town council meetings, Chris raised $80,000 over a span of 5 years to have a skate park built. It is still a popular and safe place that kids enjoy today.

I once wrote a paper in third grade explaining why my hero was my dad. While other kids were writing about Superman and Batman, I thought of him. When I was young my family didn’t have much money. It was a packed little duplex, and my parents worked very hard to provide for us boys. One day I was riding in the back of the family station wagon when we saw a homeless man on the side of the road. This wasn’t uncommon in Phoenix, but he struck my father as someone he needed to help. It was a hot summer day, and for Phoenix that means it was around 115-120 degrees. You could literally fry an egg on what this guy’s bare feet were standing on. My dad gave up the pair of boots on his feet with $20 in the sole. The man couldn’t have been more thankful. I don’t know if he knows that I remember this story, but it has helped shape me into who I am today. From that moment on, I knew what kind of man my father was.

I believe the world needs more people like Chris and I think a lot of you would agree. He has been a gift to our family and to many others. To think losing him at the age of 46 is possible is heartbreaking. He has done so much for the world over the years, and hopefully the world can give back and help him through this. I am asking this of anyone and everyone! Every single dollar counts. If you can spare anything, please do! It would be the most appreciated thing you will do all day.

Thank you!
