Xavier’s Fight

Xavier Mazzola is a 10 year old boy who was diagnosed with Acute LymphoblasticLeukemia in July of last year.  He has 4  siblings and 2 cousins all being taken ....care of by a single mother, Nina Mazzola.

Her oldest son Joseph is a huge help and didn’t work for so long to help her
through this and take care of the kids
during the many hospital stays And
treatment dats he has had. It was a
year of pure hell, stress and fear for his
family that my family knows all too well. Nina has not been able to work since
then with no luck finding a work from
home job.

Just 2 months ago, he finally reached the
maintenance part of his therapy which is daily medication plus 1x a month
infusions of Meds and several bone
marrow biopsies.  Not easy but
somewhat easier.  Treatment until
11/2022

2 days ago I received a text that
immediately made my stomach go into
knots. It was from Nina.
She said .. “can I call you. I’m freaking out”
Right there I knew deep down inside,
Xavier relapsed.   I knew it was bad news. I felt it. Having a son who went through
the same he’ll I know she wouldn’t have
sent a text like this over something small.

I called her and she was crying. Xavier
relapsed and will need a bone
marrow transplant. But not right away -
it’s a lengthy process to get his body
ready and able to receive the transplant.

To everyone who has helped this family before — I thank you with all my heart. But more help is needed and now - more than ever.

Leukemia relapses are more draining
than the initial diagnosis. It’s like being knocked down then kicked when you are down. He finally reached a point where he was nearing the point of a more normal childhood and then it all just starts over again. After this boys 14 month brave battle
and finally reaching maintenance, the
cancer has returned and he has to fight
all over again. and harder.

Xavier has to start on Tuesday with a 30 day hospital stay starting Tuesday of
next week.

After that they will test his marrow
under anesthesia. If his marrow is clear,
they continue with chemo. If not, he has
to wear a backpack full of medicine for 28 days straight like my son did, an
immunotherapy that was
the magic potion for michael and got him to 0 residual disease and cleared his
marrow of any visible cancer cells. This also cleared him for transplant.

Once it gets to 0, she has to start the
transplant process. The transplant
process is a 30-45 day hospital stay.
beginning with high dose full body
radiation and high dose chemo to ensure even the smallest cancer cells are gone.
my son michael also has a transplant and
it is by far the most challenging process
for the human body to go through.

Nina has 2 other small children at home
(3&8), a 16 year old and a 25 year old.
Her 25 year old has started a new job
last Monday.
He has been a huge help and is one of the most incredible 25 year old men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, but he just can’t quit his job after not working a day job for so long.

She also took in her 12 and 13 year old
niece and nephew during this time.
Despite her challenges, she did this
Selfless thing for them. She is
Resilient and so strong.

But not feeling that way right now.

childcare —(mainly for her 3 year old daughter and 8 year old Son) and food / dinners for her children are 2 things I’d like to help her with in addition to her rent and utilities bills.

I started this hoping people will help
——anything you can - please give.
She appreciates every single thing
anyone has done to help her but her
support system is small and we need to make it bigger.

please donate to Xavier’s Fight and lets
show her what we can come together to do !
