Dear Friends,
Our precious, vivacious and very loving Dixie, who is a 1.5 year old Brittany, was rushed to the vet Saturday morning, 6/17/23 because she was having trouble walking and breathing. After an anxious day at a local Urgent Care, we were advised to transfer her to a vet that could perform the surgery she likely needed due to a foreign body in her lung. After a stressful hour of 2 people calling all over within a 200 mile radius, we finally found a vet in Woodland Hills that had the capability of doing surgeries on the weekend. Once there, it was a few more hours of waiting for them to examine her and determine the next steps. They worked to get her stable, giving her antibiotics for the bacterial infection she was fighting, bringing down her fever, having her on an I.V. drip and draining the puss that was building around her lungs. We had to wait til Monday for them to perform a CT scan and then consequently go straight into surgery. We were praying and are so thankful that despite the seriousness of her case and the highly invasive surgery, they were able to go through her ribs instead of breaking open her sternum. They were forced to remove the one lung lobe, and had to perform a second incision to deal with a secondary lesion, and then reach a third lesion, where they managed to find the foxtail that had been traveling through her body. Post op wasn't going as well as they hoped and she spent the next 24 hours in an oxygen tank. We are hopeful to be able to bring her home Wednesday. She will be in serious recovery for 4 weeks, and we will need to monitor for a couple months and are praying there is no recurrence or further complications. The vet bills have been much more than we could have ever anticipated or imagined as we have never had such a serious problem with a pet happen before. We understand these are financially difficult times for all. If you would like to contribute any amount towards Dixie's Emergency Surgery, she and we would greatly appreciate your support to help cover the vet bills. If you know of anyone that would like to support Dixie, please feel free to forward this to them. Also, please add us to your prayer list as the danger for Dixie is not yet over.
Thank you for your prayers and support! Dixie and I hope to be seeing you in person again real soon. :)
