Helping My Daughter Heal – A Mother’s Plea for Support
Just when it seemed like my daughter was finally turning a corner… life took an unexpected and heartbreaking turn.
On September 23rd, she was admitted to Tampa General Hospital again due to a severe infection with her pacemaker. The next day, she underwent emergency surgery to have the device removed. Due to the infection and extremely low heart rate, she wasn’t stable enough to be discharged, and had to wait 10 days before a new pacemaker could be implanted. Recovery has been far from easy and as difficult as this road has already been, it's not over — she still has one more heart surgery scheduled in the coming weeks.
She is now back home, but the infection was so severe that she had to be discharged with a PICC line and is on two IV antibiotics multiple times a day for six weeks. She is unable to use her left arm for 8 weeks, and has limited mobility in her right arm until surgical site is healed. As a result, she can’t work, drive, or care for herself independently yet.
Watching my daughter suffer through this has been heartbreaking — no mother ever wants to see her child endure such pain and uncertainty. Over the past six months, her health has been on a frightening decline but she is staying strong and positive throughout this journey.
Hospitalizations:
- April 2–4
- April 17–19
- June 11–12
- June 17–27
- September 23–October 3
In that time, she has:
- Spent over 30 days in the hospital
- Had 3 cardiac devices implanted
- Undergone 4 heart surgeries
- Currently in heart failure
- Had fluid in her lungs and around her heart
- Suffered from necrotic tissue at the pacemaker site
- And now facing a long, complex recovery from a life-threatening infection
Stephanie has always been one to work hard and do anything for everyone and never expected anything in return. This has taken a massive toll on her — physically, emotionally, and financially.
As her mother, I’m doing everything I can to support her, but we’ve reached a point where we need help. I’m asking, humbly and from the bottom of my heart, for your support to help cover:
- Medical expenses not covered by insurance
- In-home care and recovery support
- Basic living costs while she is unable to work
- Rent/Electricity (landlord and electric account can be given)
While her job is secure she does not have any benefits to assist during this difficult time and all this missed work is unpaid. Any donation, no matter the size, will help my daughter focus on what matters most: healing.
And if you’re not able to give at this time, please consider sharing this page with others. Your kindness, your prayers, and your support mean more than words can express.
With deep gratitude,
Tammy
