Boots' Medical Expenses
Donation protected
As many of you know, on July 7th my sister's dog, Boots, somehow opened the gate and escaped from her backyard. She was reported to have been hit by a car and ran off into the woods. For three days Boots' family, friends, neighbors and even total strangers searched the woods for her. My sister and her family were so touched by the outpouring of support in their search for Boots. Everyone's positive energy helped them hold onto hope and continue the search as the days passed and their hope wavered.
On the fourth day after she went missing, my sister's in-laws drove from Plymouth to Milton in what felt like a last ditch attempt to search the woods. Boots has a special attachment to her grandmother, Linda, and we all hoped that maybe if she heard Linda's voice she would answer back. When Linda called to Boots, she heard a faint bark in the distance. Linda and her husband, Jeff, trudged through marshy woodlands to find that she had buried herself in a den. They carried her out of the woods and brought her to the VCA South Shore Animal Hospital where she was thoroughly evaluated and treated with antibiotics to fight a massive infection that had set into her hind leg where she had been hit by the car. She is doing relatively well recovering from the trauma, however, the severe injury to her hind leg has left her family with difficult decisions to make.
After spending $3,000 to stablize her medically, they are now facing an additional $4,000 in medical bills for the intensive care necessary to either save her leg or amputate. These unexpected costs come at a particularly difficult time, as my sister and her family are expecting a new baby next week. While it's never comfortable to ask for donations, I felt that I had to reach out to the amazing community of people who have been so supportive throughout this ordeal. I've never used GoFundMe before, but I thought it could make a big difference in helping to pay for the care necessary for Boots to make a full recovery.
Thank you so much to everyone for their support in her rescue.
